I have been drawing a new (R)Time Mind Map, a Revolution of Time, with Earth sitting in the center.
Around her, six seasons move in a circle. Winter becomes early spring. Early spring becomes late spring. Summer reaches its height. Early fall begins the inward turn. Late fall gathers what remains.
As I began choosing symbols for each season, two of them opened an unexpected doorway for me: the firefly and the acorn.
The firefly belongs to summer… the Full Moon… & Summer Solstice…
At first, I chose it simply because it felt like summer. Warm evenings. Tall grass. That familiar flicker appearing just as daylight fades. Then I started looking closer…
A firefly does more than illuminate.
It communicates through light.
Different flashing fireflies have distinct patterns. Their flashes have timing, pauses, repetition, and rhythm. Light becomes a signal because of when it appears.
That stopped me.
Because this entire Mind Map is an exploration of time.
The firefly seems to understand something we often forget:
A signal has rhythm.
Rhythm creates meaning.
Timing is part of the message.
Suddenly the firefly became the perfect symbol for the height of summer, the place in the cycle I associate with Connect and Elevate.
This is the season of maximum outward expression. The Sun reaches its great height. The Full Moon represents fullness. Energy has expanded outward as far as it can go.
And there, in the darkness of a summer evening, a tiny creature flashes.
Here I am.
Then darkness.
Then light again.
The interval matters just as much as the illumination. Perhaps that is part of connection too. We connect. We pause. We listen. We recognize another signal. We respond. Connection becomes a rhythm between beings.
And then the wheel turns.
Summer begins leaning toward fall. For early fall, I chose an acorn. The contrast feels almost perfect.
The firefly radiates outward.
The acorn gathers inward.
One flashes its energy into the surrounding world. The other concentrates an entire possibility into a tiny protected form.

Inside an acorn is an oak tree that has yet to become visible.
Roots.
Branches.
Leaves.
Shade.
More acorns.
An entire future compressed into potential.
This is what I love about the seasonal turning from summer into early fall. The cycle has reached its fullest outward expression, and now something begins to concentrate.
The acorn reminds me that the waning half of a cycle is filled with activity of another kind.
Energy begins gathering.
Experience becomes information.
Information becomes wisdom.
Wisdom becomes something we can carry into the next revolution. Maybe this is one reason natural cycles feel so different from the straight line of a calendar.
Nature keeps returning.
A firefly flashes and disappears.
The Moon waxes and wanes.
Summer peaks and folds toward autumn.
An oak releases an acorn, and the enormous becomes small again.
Yet small does not mean diminished.
The acorn may be one of nature’s most beautiful reminders that concentration is a form of power. So now, when I look at these two symbols beside one another on the (R)Time Mind Map, I see a conversation.
The firefly asks: What is ready to shine through me?
The acorn asks: What is worth carrying forward?
Perhaps a revolution of time begins when we stop asking only, What time is it?
And begin asking: Where am I in the rhythm?
